Just thought I would give a quick update on the kids. Jaclyn starts hockey this week, Thomas has already started hockey and Erica is cheerleading and swimming. Both Jaclyn and Erica do tumbling as well. Things are going well but starting to get busier now that school stuff and sports stuff are into full swing!
Note: Today is our 18 year anniversary. Seems like only yesterday that we were at the Centre watching Phil's slide show. I have some great memories and hopefully Michael does too! Have a great day everyone! J

I'm here in Texas for a conference and met up with Bill Brown whose wife Michele suffers from FTD. It was wonderful talking with him over dinner and sharing our experiences. There are so many similarities in our lives that it felt great to talk with someone who has been through the same things. His three kids are virtually the same ages as mine, he's around the same age as me, spouse in nursing home around same time - lots of similarities.

The Shin family Christmas party was yesterday at the Centre. Michael didn't say a word. We weren't able to stay too long since Erica had cheerleading beforehand and Jaclyn had hockey early evening but I think Michael enjoyed himself - hard to tell. Always enjoy meeting up with the Shin family, they are a great group of people and it is wonderful to be a part of such a caring family.

Spent the day at the GM Centre in Oshawa. Erica's team came in 1st!!!! Her teammates are here at the house celebrating - way to go girls especially Erica, Shae, Rachel and Lindsay! Thomas' high school hockey game was televised on Rogers Community TV - woo hoo! They even mentioned Shin the "speed demon". Too bad they lost the game.

Michael's Auntie Minako passed away on December 16th after a battle with cancer. She was a very kind and warm person and she will be missed greatly.

The kids asked if instead of taking Michael to my mom and dad's for Christmas dinner, if he could instead come home on Christmas morning to sit by the Christmas tree and open presents. I thought that was so sweet that I will do this since I'm not sure how much longer I will be able to get him to and from places.
When I visited Michael after Auntie Minako's funeral, he couldn't say the kids names again. I can see in his face that he knows but this disease doesn't let the words come out. Michael is such a good and kind dad and hopefully the kids will always remember that and not the man that he became because of FTD.

We are heading south to Orlando soon and looking forward to getting away. It's been 5 years since we had a vacation and the first one without Michael.

Enjoying Orlando with the kids and mom and dad. Stephen visited with us for a few days and it was lots of fun. Tomorrow we are visiting Magic Kingdom. When we get back, I'm meeting with 4 other caregivers who live in the Toronto/Mississauga/Oakville/Nobleton areas. Looking forward to meeting other caregivers. Missing hockey and cheerleading but I'll live........

Tomorrow is my last day at Inter Medico. Sad but excited at the thought of starting my new job on Monday! Inter Medico has been a great company to work for and I've made many friends throughout the 4 1/2 years that I worked there. Inter Medico has been incredibly supportive and I will miss my colleagues and friends.

Had the most brutal trip back from Chicago. Had a 5pm flight on Wed, was delayed, then cancelled. Lined up for 1 1/2 hrs to book another flight. Got another flight for 9pm on another airline but Amer Air won't release my ticket for some reason so I have to pay another $300 for a ticket on United. Walked the 3000 miles to the other terminal for United Airlines. Great. Flight delayed to 9:44, then 11:00, then 11:12, then 11:15. Finally they tell us that the plane has landed, people get off the plane and we are told that they are cleaning the plane and we can board shortly. Then they tell us that the pilots have logged their maximum hours for the day so they are cancelling the flight. This is now 11:45pm. Line up again for another 1 1/2 hrs and there are no more flights for that night. So by the time I get to the counter, it is 2am and I am booking a flight for 6:30am. They say that they are giving out hotel vouchers - woo hoo - what do I care since it is not worth taking a shuttle to a hotel, checking in and then leaving by 4 something to get back for the 6:30 flight so I stayed in the airport, tried to sleep but using my laptop as a pillow is not great. Finished my book, drank lots of tea and coffee. Flight leaves on time and arrives back inToronto at 9am. Wonderful except that since I changed airlines, I arrived in terminal 1 and my car is parked at terminal 3. Last thing is that they would not take my luggage from Amer. Airlines to United so my luggage is somewhere in terminal 3. Went in search of luggage go from counter to counter finally finding someone to talk to. Can I come back in 1/2 hour so they can look through all the leftover luggage? Sure, no problem. Go back and hallelujah they have found my luggage. I have to go to another floor to met Karen who will meet me with my luggage once she is finished with her other customers. Wait outside Amer Airlines baggage door for 1/2 hour. Got my bag, head to car and home by 12:30pm. That's my saga. Hate that Chicago airport.
